ARIZONA HULA TEACHER INVITED TO PERFORM AT THE WORLD INVITATIONAL HULA FESTIVAL

  

 

Kalena G., of Glendale, AZ, has been invited to perform at the World Invitational Hula Festival, Honolulu, Hawaii (www.worldhula.com).  She will perform with her sister halau hula (Hula School)--NaPua O' Polynesia, of Providence, RI (www.tropicalisland-dancers.com).  Kalena will represent Arizona.

 

The World Invitational Hula Festival will take place November 2011.  This unique festival is an on-going celebration of Hawaiian culture, art, history, language, and relationship to all natural things in the Hawaiian Environment.   Their goal is to to offer an opportunity for those away from Hawai`i to return and become "one" with halau (hula groups) from Hawai`i in the true feeling of 'ohana (family). To renew an appreciation of what it is to be Hawaiian conservators of the 'aina (land) and all that makes it bountiful, and to appreciate the universal need to preserve, protect, and enhance our 'aina and culture as treasures in our keeping.

 

Kalena (as well as Napua O’ Polynesia) is looking for sponsors and/or donations to help them get to Hawaii.  In exchange for your help, she will donate her time in teaching Polynesian dance to your favorite charity, website link, and recognition for their support.

 

Kalena has taught at Marygrove College—Institute of Music and Dance (Detroit, MI) and at the City of Farmington Hills—Cultural Division (Farmington Hills, MI).  She has taught at the YMCA (St. Clair Shores, MI), East Detroit Adult Education (Eastpointe, MI) and has been a guest instructor at Oakland University in Rochester Hills, MI.  She is available to teach seminars and educational programs.

 

Kalena is currently teaching Polynesian dance classes at the .  She also volunteers her time teaching Polynesian dance for Someone Worth Accepting Now (S.W.A.N.--www.someoneworthacceptingnow.org). S.W.A.N. is an organization supporting victims and survivors of domestic violence.
